Idly karam is very popular dish in andhra.....it well goes with idly and hot white rice with tea spoon of melted ghee....hmmmm.......mouth watering........i love this combination I often prepare this podi and store in airtight containers.whenever I fell lazy to prepare chutney or sambar in idly this is the best option for me to serve....
My kids love this combination. Preparing idly karam is so simple and easy.anyone can make this podi with my step by step picture directions.
this is also best combination for white hot rice.don't forget to add ghee in it :)

Ingredients :
Bengal gram/chana dal/chanaga pappu: 2 table spoons
Minapappu /urad dal/white lentils : 2 table spoons
Coriander seeds/dhaniyalu : 4 table spoons
Tamarind : small lemon size
Dried red chilles : 5 to 6
cumin seeds/jeera/jeelakarra : 1 table spoon
Curry leaves : 4 strings
Garlic cloves : 10 to 15
salt to taste
Oil : 2 to 4 table spoons
Method :
First take a pan pour oil and heat it,then add chana dal and urad dal and fry till changes into light golden color and take them into a plate
Now in same process fry all ingredients one by one (except salt and garlic cloves)
Now let all ingredients cool completely and blend into a fine powder by adding salt
Now add garlic cloves and again blend into fine powder
Let the mixture cool completely and store in airtight container
We can store this for 1 month in room temperature.
Serve this with idly with melted ghee.
Add white lentils and Bengal gram |
Fry till golden color |
Fry coriander seeds |
Add cumin seeds and fry them |
Add dried red chillies and fry them |
Add curry leaves |
Add tamarind and fry it |
Let it cool completely |
Take into a jar |
Add salt |
Blend it |
Add garlic cloves |
Blend it and scrape the edges and blend it once |
It's done now |
Serve!!! |
