Dal makhni is a very popular dish in north India and Pakistan. It has mild and rich taste. Main ingredients in Dal makhni is black gram, kidney beans (rajma),cream and butter. It tastes really really good. It well goes with lachha paratha, naan,phulka, poori and bhatura.
I often make this yummy dal makhni in dinner. We loved it to the core. Yesterday prepared this in dinner and served with lachha paratha (recipe here). combination was so good. Making dal makhni is so simple and easy. You need very simple ingredients to make this dal makhni.

Ingredients :
Black gram / minumulu/kali urad dal : 100 grams
rajma/kidney beans : 50 grams
Medium size onion : 1 chopped
Medium tomatoes : 3 to 4 (blend into fine paste)
Chopped green chilly : 1
ginger garlic paste : 1 tea spoon
Coriander powder : 2 tea spoons
Chilly powder : 1/2 tea spoon or according to your taste
Fresh or heavy cream : 4 table spoons
Butter : 2 table spoons
Oil/ghee : 1 table spoon
kasuri methi/dried fenugreek leaves : 1 table spoon
salt to taste
Whole garam masala :
Cloves : 4
cardamom : 2
Bay leaf : 1
cinnamon : 1 stick
Method :
First soak both dals for 4 hours then wash them well and cook till they becomes soft.
Now mash cooked dal well with spatula.
Now heat oil in a pan add whole garam masala then add chopped onions and chilly. Saute till they changes into golden color.
Now add ginger garlic paste salute for few seconds then add tomato paste cook for few minutes
Now add coriander and chilly powder salute for few seconds.
Now add mashed dal saute for a while.
Now pour water as required.stir it well and cook on low flame for 10 minutes. pour more water if needed. Stir in between.
Now dry roast kasuri methi for 5 to 6 seconds and make powder by crushing with your hands. ( this is a small tip)roasting kasuri methi gives a nice aroma to your dish.
Now add butter and cream stir it and remove from fire and serve hot.
Soak dals |
Cook till it gets soft |
Blend tomatoes into fine puree |
Mash dal well |
Heat oil add whole garam masala |
Add onions and green chilly saute for a while |
Add ginger garlic paste salute for few seconds |
Add tomato puree |
Cook for few minutes |
Now add coriander,cumin and chilly powder |
Saute for few seconds |
Add mashed dal stir it |
Pour water |
Add salt and cook on low flame |
Dry roast kasuri methi for few seconds and crush them |
Add kasuri methi |
Stir it |
Add butter and cream and remove from fire |
Serve hot. |
