PAYA SALAN/PAYA CURRY RECIPE (lamb trotters)


Paya curry is a finger licking dish. lamb trotters cooked with lots of spices and masalas. If you are searching for a tasty paya recipe then try this one.  you can make yummy paya curry at home. It well goes with dosa, naan, parathaand rice. If you want to taste best paya curry means you should cook paya well. In pressure cooker it takes 30 to 45 minutes to cook paya. Sometimes it may take 1 hour. Though you are using pressure cooker check after every 5 to 6 vissels. Then add more water to cook. Otherwise gravy may burn. So, keep these tips in your mind and start making paya curry.

This is how we prepare paya at home. I hope you will give this a try and let me know how it turned out for you.


Ingredients :

Paya (lamb trotters) : 4
Chopped medium onions : 4
Chopped medium tomato : 1
green chilly : 2
coriander leaves : 1/4 cup
Ginger garlic paste : 2 table spoons
coconut paste : 2 table spoons
Coriander powder : 1 table spoon
Chilly powder : 2 tea spoons (you can adjust as per your taste)
Turmeric powder : 1 tea spoon
Oil : 1/3 cup
Cinnamon sticks : 2
cloves : 4
Salt to taste

Method :

First heat oil in a pressure cooker or pan add cinnamon and cloves then add onions and chilly saute until they changes into golden color.

Now add ginger garlic paste saute till raw flavors disappear

Now add tomatoes saute for 2 minutes then add other spice powders and coconut paste saute for few seconds

Now add paya and salt saute for 2 to 3 minutes then add water and cook until paya gets very soft and tender.

Finally add coriander leaves and cook on low flame for 5 minutes and remove from fire and serve.

If you are using pan it takes so long time to cook. Check  in between and add more water and cook it.

If you are using pressure cooker, don't remove pressure cooker lid immediately after turning off the flame. Let steam goes completely then remove the lid.

Add onions and green chillies saute for few minutes

Add ginger garlic paste saute until raw flavors disappear

Add tomatoes and cook well

Now add coriander, chilly and turmeric powders

Add coconut paste

Saute for a while

Now add paya and salt

Saute for few minutes

Add water and cook until paya gets tender

It is cooked well now

Finally add coriander leaves and cook on low flame for 5 minutes and switch off the flame


Yummy paya salan is ready to serve!!!!
