BISI BELE BHAT RECIPE


Bisi bele bhat is a traditional and popular dish in Karnataka. Bisi bele bhat means hot lentil rice in Kannada. This dish is made with pigeon pea (toor dal) rice and lots of veggies and spices. One of my page follower requested this recipe. I never made bisi bele bhat recipe before, but tasted once in our neighbors house it was so yummy and tasty. I asked her recipe and it was super hit. It tasted so yum!!!!!

          You can add any veggies as per your wish.I have cooked veggies along with rice and dal. I like soft veggies in my bisi bele bhat. if you want you can boil veggies separately and add to cooked rice and dal.

 Ingredients :

Rice : 2 cups
Toor dal/pigeon pea/kandi pappu : 1 cup
Salt to taste
Turmeric powder : 1/2 tea spoon
tamarind : Medium lemon size
Ghee : 2 table spoons
curry leaves : 2 to 3 strings
Cashew nuts : 15 to 20
Hing/inguva : 1/4 tea spoon
vegetables : 350 grams ( I used carrot,radish,potato,French beans and brinjal)
diced large onion : 1
Coriander leaves : 1/4 cup

For bisi bele bhat spice powder :

Coriander seeds : 2 table spoons
cumin seeds : 1 tea spoon
Fenugreek seeds/mentulu : 1/2 tea spoon
Dried red chillies : 5 to 6
coconut : 2 table spoons
cloves : 2
Cinnamon sticks : 2 (1 inch)
Bengal gram/chana dal : 2 tea spoons
urad dal/minapappu : 2 tea spoons
Mustard seeds/aavaalu : 1 tea spoon

My 1 cup measures 200 ml

Method :

First wash and soak rice and dal for 1 hour. 

Cut your veggies.

 Soak and take out the juice and keep it a side.

Take a vessel add dal,rice,veggies,salt and turmeric powder. Pour water and cook until dal and rice cooked well.

Mean while to make spice  powder take a pan add chana dal and urad dal dry roast for few seconds then add remaining ingredients and roast them well and remove from fire and let it cool completely. Blend these roasted ingredients into fine powder. 

Now take a vessel add ghee heat it, add cashew nuts saute for few seconds and add curry leaves and Hing stir it.

Now add tamarind juice saute for few seconds then add 2 to 3 cups of water and let it boil. Now add cooked rice and mix it well. (if your rice is dry Add some more water)

Now add blended spice powder and mix it well. Simmer the flame add coriander leaves cook for few minutes and remove from fire and serve with potato chips or Papad.


Take your veggies

Wash and soak dal and rice

Take rice and dal in a vessel

Add veggies ( you can cook veggies separately If you want)

Add turmeric powder and salt

Pour water and cook it well

Soak tamarind

Take all spices to make bisi bele bhat masala

Roast chana dal and urad dal For few seconds

Add remaining ingredients

Roast them well

Let it cool completely

Blend it into fine powder

Rice and dal is cooked well

Heat ghee add cashew nuts and fry them

Add curry leaves and hing

Add tamarind juice and water let it boil for few seconds

Add cooked rice and mix it well

Add blended spice powder

Mix it well

Simmer the flame add coriander leaves cook for couple of minutes and remove from fire

Serve hot

Tasty bisi bele bhat is ready!!!!!

MUNAKKADA SAMBAR/DRUMSTICK SAMBAR RECIPE



Sambar is most popular dish in south India. Without sambar our south Indian meal is incomplete. This is the main dish served in Hindu weddings. It tastes so good with hot rice.

       As south Indian meal is incomplete without sambar my blog is also incomplete without this yummy sambar. I'm going to share more versions in sambar. But today I'm sharing simple and tasty sambar recipe.

Ingredients :

Toor dal/Kandi pappu/pigeon peas : 1/2 cup/100 grams
Drumsticks : 3
Large sliced tomatoes : 2
Large sliced onions : 1
Shallots : 10 to 15
Chilly powder : 1 tea spoon
Coriander powder : 1 tea spoon
Turmeric powder : 1/2 tea spoon
Tamarind : 25 grams (soak and take juice)
curry leaves : 2 strings
Coriander leaves : 1/2 cup
Mustard seeds/aavaalu : 1 tea spoon
Jeera/jeelakara/cumin seeds : 1/2 tea spoon
Fenugreek seeds/mentulu : 1/2 tea spoon
Dried red chillies : 2
Sambar masala powder : 1 table spoon
Oil : 2 table spoons
Hing/inguva/ asafoetida : 1/4 tea spoon
Green chillies : 2
Salt to taste

Method :


First wash and cook dal until it gets soft then mash it with spatula

Now heat heavy bottom pan add oil then add mustard seeds let them splutter.

Now add dried chillies,Fenugreek seeds,cumin seeds 

Now add onions saute for 2 minutes then add curry leaves and shallots saute for a while

Now add tomatoes and cook until they gets soft

Now add drumstick pieces saute for 2 to 3 minutes

Now add coriander,chilly and turmeric powders and Hing saute for few seconds

Now pour 500 ml of water cook for 5 minutes by covering the lid

Now add cooked dal and tamarind juice and green chillies stir it well and cook on medium flame for 10 minutes (add more water if required)

Now add sambar powder and stir it without lumps and cook on low flame for 5 minutes

Finally add coriander leaves and serve.


Cook dal first

Heat oil add mustard seeds

Add cumin seeds,fenugreek seeds and dried chillies

Add onions

Curry leaves saute it

Add shallots saute for  while

Add tomatoes cook well

Add drumsticks saute for few minutes

Add coriander,chilly and turmeric powder

Add hing saute for a while

Pour water 

Cook it

Add cooked dal

Tamarind juice

Add green chillies

Cook on medium flame

Add sambar powder

Stir it and cook on low flame

Finally add coriander leaves

Remove from fire


Serve hot!!!!

ANDHRA PESARATTU/MOONG DAL DOSA RECIPE



Pesarattu is a famous breakfast in andhra pradesh.it well goes with ginger chutney and ginger pickle. Another yummy combination is upma....yes we can serve with yummy upma (recipe here) it tastes really delicious with upma. I often prepare this dish for breakfast and serves with any pickle.but ginger chutney tastes good.


         peasarattu is made with  green gram/pesalu. Moong dal soaked and blended with ginger,zeera and green chillies then spread this batter on tawa and make dosa.I hope you like this recipe.

Ingredients :

Green gram/pesarapappu/moong DAL : 1 cup
Rice : 1/2 cup
Salt to taste
soda bicarbonate : 1/4 tea spoon
chopped onions : 1 cup
Chopped ginger : 1 table spoon
Jeera/cumin seeds : 1 tea spoon
Green chillies : 4
Oil as needed

Method :

First soak moong dal and rice for 6 to 8 hours or over night then wash it and drain the water

Now take soaked dal and rice into a blender then add ginger,green chillies,salt,soda bicarbonate and cumin seeds.

Now blend into fine paste by adding water and take this batter into a bowl add some more water and make like dosa batter.

Now heat tawa make dosa on tawa pour 1 to 2 tea spoons of oil then sprinkle some onions

Let it cook for 1 to 2 Minutes then take into a plate and serve hot.
Soak dal and rice

Add salt,soda bicorb.,cumin seeds,ginger and chillies

Blend into a fine paste and add some water and make like dosa batter

Heat tawa and put the batter

Spread it

Sprinkle onions

Drizzle some oil

Let it cook for a while

Fold it and take into a plate

Serve hot!!!
